Day 2 here in Chile

It is a good thing that we get here days ahead of the race. After all, how difficult can it be to hook up 6 wires and start a race. The hill management (all great people) tell us the wiring is fine.

As Dick and I start working on the configuration, we find the wiring is ok, but has issues that most people would not notice. The morning is spent visually inspecting the splices in the cables which show up as sore thumbs with the Megger test equipment that is on loan from Precision Timing in Canada (thanks Ted).

The course area does get hit with avalanches from time to time. We have to dig in 2 places to check the splices, as there is 'cross talk' between the cables. This requires moving meters of snow. The first one is down 2 meters and in 1 meter.

Still chasing a problem, the 2nd looks to be at the finish area. We dig down over 2 meters, move some rocks that have been put there by an avalanche and then open the cover to the wiring vault.

Have a look at the gallery for today.

You can see the view of the actual course, and another shot of the road. This is the only road into Argentina. The trucks line up for days to get over the mountains, and this is just the start of it.
